Willow Spring Towing & Recovery, Inc. has been owned and operated by the Herring family since 1941. The company was originally founded by Woodrow Herring Sr. and his wife Nellie. Throughout the first few decades the company was involved in excavating as well as towing and recovery. The company quickly established itself in all aspects as being dependable and professional.

In the late 1970’s Woody Herring Jr. began steering the company toward making it an elite professional towing and recovery company and in 1981 he became sole owner and incorporated the business. He and his wife Carol, married since 1960, began working towards establishing the company as one of the premiere towing companies in the industry. At the time there were very few companies in existence that operated solely as a towing and recovery business. Most towing enterprises were part of another business such as a gas station or auto body shop. Willow Spring Towing & Recovery, Inc. was one of the first towing companies to establish itself as a leader in the industry.

Woody’s goal was to create a company that was on par with the area’s nationally respected Fire and Rescue departments. It is a continuing process to constantly stay up to date with training and equipment but we feel we have met that goal with our 24 hour preparedness, our modern fleet and specialty equipment, and most importantly our highly trained employees.

Woody is a founding member of the Virginia Association of Towing and Recovery Operators and a charter member on the TRAA level 2 & 3 certification board. TRAA is the national towing association. In 1991 Woody was inducted in to the Towing Hall of Fame. The Towing Hall of Fame is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee and includes members from all over the world.

Current family members working as management for the company include Woody and Carol’s son Chip and his wife Maria. Also, Woody and Carol’s daughter Denise and her husband Jon. Woody and Carol are also proud grandparents of four grandsons.
